Mill Creek

Location:
Mill Creek is a cool water tributary to the White River. It is located deep in the Ozarks, just southeast of Combs, AR.

Importance:
There was a failing concrete slab used for private land access. This was preventing fish migration and sediment transport on Mill Creek. Providing landowner access and restoring function to this stretch had large anthropogenic and ecosystem value.

The Project:
The goal of this project was to remove the concrete structure, construct a stable low water crossing to maintain land access, and stabilize the eroding creek immediately downstream. The crossing was created on a "glide" which is the most shallow part of a natural system and occurs immediately before a "riffle." The riffle was then constructed with sandstone boulder that will create over 3,200 sq ft of critical habitat for native aquatic life.
